Happy Friday everyone! We have been busy learning! This week we continued talking about patterns, colours, how we are all unique and community building. We started learning about the first of the four seasons we will encounter during the school year, autumn, as the first day of fall was yesterday, September 22. We also practiced logging into our computers and had our bus evacuation assembly where we learned bus safety. In language arts we have been practicing read to self through reading the pictures and words and started our writing workshops where we all learn that we are writers because writing is just telling a story through pictures and words! In addition, we have completed our first "Jolly Phonics" letter-sound group and have started the second group and have practiced our printing for these letter sounds. That means that students should know the sound, action, and letter formation for "s, a, t, i, p, n, c, and k!" Many students remember learning their sounds in kindergarten, but extra practice always helps! Here is a link for the Jolly Phonics sounds (in the order they are learned): https://safeshare.tv/x/gdBxhSobeb
Moving forward, a reminder to parents and students alike: students cannot be in the school before the 8:25 bell. When students arrive they can play on the playground. The side we are on for recess changes every week. Next week we are back on the spider web playground! There is a teacher on supervision from 8:10 - 8:25, so you can leave your child playing during this time if you desire. At 8:25 the second morning bell rings and students may proceed upstairs. When the weather is too cold for outside play, it will be announced that students may go inside these days.
Next week is busy! On Monday, library books are due. We also have our Energy Day Assembly from 12:45 - 1:45. We will be presenting our first literacy awards for the school at this assembly. Tuesday is hot lunch day. If you were too busy to place an order by this past week's deadline, don't worry! I missed out too! We will have another opportunity next month. Please note all orders must be made online. Wednesday afternoon I have a Professional Learning meeting from 1-7. As such, there will be a guest teacher in our class that afternoon. Thursday is picture day. If you haven't done so already, please have your child return the picture form. Moreover, have your child come to school Thursday dressed to impress and with their best smile! Friday is Orange Shirt Day. Students should wear an orange shirt. More information can be found here: http://www.orangeshirtday.org/ It is also our Terry Fox Run. Thank you to everyone who has brought a toonie (or more!) for Terry. We will continue to collect Toonies for Terry until Friday!
Please see the agendas for any more updates that occur through the week. Students are to glue notes into their agendas and then I initial them when I see that it is glued in (I initial it so that if it comes off you should still see part of my initials). If you ever feel you missed an agenda note because you only see half of my initials, please let me know. Also, if you can sign the agendas in the signature spot, that helps me so I know you are receiving our messages. You can also write me notes in there. I will respond with a smiley face stamp or written reply, depending on what is appropriate.
A lot of information this week, but I hope it helps! Thanks all and enjoy your weekend!
