As there was no Friday Focus last week, I wanted to thank everyone who came out for Parent Teacher Interviews! I realize it is a commitment out of your already busy schedule, but communication with you is key to your child’s success. I appreciate your partnership! If you haven’t done so already, please return report card envelopes (signed) to us as we will need them for the next reporting period. If you put it in your child’s backpack and it keeps coming home, PLEASE remind your child that they need to take it out of their backpack and put it in our hand in bin. Thank you!
Letter sounds and actions learned since our last Friday Focus are “oo” and “th” (two sounds each), “y,” “sh,” “ch,” and “qu.” We also learned to print the letter “y.” We will have completed all of our sounds and printing by Christmas. Continue to practice letters and sounds at home using the link earlier provided. Technology is a great motivator for some kids. Talk to me if you would like suggestions on apps or websites to use at home. Student success in literacy relies on them knowing their letters and letter sounds, and we appreciate you reinforcing the learning that takes place at school!
We have almost completed our number sense unit on numbers 1-10. We are also practicing counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Our writing workshop lessons have been fun and we have been working on brainstorming to come up with ideas to write about that are important to us. Our writing will soon transition to Christmas themes. If you would prefer your child does not write to Santa or participate in Christmas activities, please let me know.
This week we had a lot of fun activities! We learned some new games in gym, had our last enrichment for this round, visited the You Be You Showcase (which will be on the news tonight!) where students showed us what makes them unique, had hot lunch and an energy assembly! We also had moustache day to wrap up “Movember!” We provided each child with a moustache as there was not a lot of time to prepare! I will send out a picture via Remind of the class! Lastly, I was in training on Wednesday afternoon and received some training on the technology that is available to implement in our class. The next morning, I had one software installed for our colour demonstration in science. The kids were so excited to be able to see not only the experiment, but themselves, projected onto the SmartBoard. This picture will also be sent via Remind. Lastly, we had a lesson on “Tattle Tongue” as we learn the difference between big and small problems and how to independently problem solve!
Important for next week:
Division I is on the spiderweb playground starting Monday.
December 7: Scholastic Orders Due
Library Books Due
Note of Error on Monthly Newsletter: December 13 – School Council Meeting 6:30 p.m.
