This week we continued learning about the season fall and the changes that we see occur in plants, animals, and people. Further, we continued practicing logging into our computers, and some students were even successful! In language arts we completed our little reader books for the words “me” and “see,” practiced the sound, action, and letter formation for “e, h, and r,” and continued practicing read to self. Students also began to challenge their red lollipop words! Congratulations to them! Moreover, we have been spending a lot of time talking about the three types of respect: respect for other, respect for places, and respect for ourselves. As a class we are struggling to make good choices, so we will continue to focus on respect as we approach our Social Studies objectives of community building. Further, we spent some time in health talking about staying healthy and germs! In grade one we really need to emphasize not touching our faces (sneezing into our hands, picking our noses, etc.) so that we can all stay healthy and stop the spread of germs! Lastly, our students did a great job today wearing orange to support inclusivity, reconciliation and hope. Not only did we celebrate that every child matters, but we also celebrated Terry Fox and completed our Terry Fox run around the west side of the school. Great job everyone!
Next week we return to the rock wall (East side of the playground) for recesses. We also start collecting non-perishable food items for Feed to Bug. This will continue until October 28. Library books are due Monday. On Monday we will also have our first lockdown practice at 9:00 a.m. After school skating begins Wednesday, October 5. It is held at Adam’s Ice Arena from 3:45-4:45 p.m. Lastly, round 1 of our enrichment program begins next Friday. Students will be combined with students of other grades to learn about something of their choice.
Please continue to check and sign agendas. Students are self reflecting in their agendas daily. While our self reflections are not always a true demonstration of how our day went, at this point I am emphasizing that students fill out whether they were great, okay, or need improvement when it comes to their listening and focussing on completing their work. We will expand on their self reflections in other areas as the year continues. Self reflecting is a great habit to start at a young age and can be used at home too!
Enjoy your weekend!
